Glass wool is found in different product variants, soft or hard materials, to be used for different insulation jobs. Some of the hard types must conform to rigid tolerances on the nominal measures. One of these is the length which must not vary more than ± 2 mm.
This length is measured by means of an DSE Black-Line non-contact distance sensor, sensing the edge of the length as shown below

The glass wool is moving continually out of the hardening furnace. The width of the wool is adjusted by round knives operating lengthwise. The product length is obtained by means of a knife mounted on a crank mechanism. The starting time for the crank is determined by the sensor, as it detects the front edge of the glass wool.
