Quality Control of Burger Breads

Quality Control of Burger Breads

Burger breads are known to almost every consumer from visit to various fast food restaurants and grill rooms. A German producer of burger breads wish to control the height of the products to avoid problems in handling and packing. The end user is a large, international fast food chain, also wanting identical burger breads.

The breads are advanced on a conveyor belt, and an ODS sensor measures the height of the breads with reference to the conveyor belt. The difference between the distance to the conveyor belt and the distance to the breads yields a relative measure for the thickness.

The output signal from ODS sensor and is sent to a control unit, controlling a sorting machine. The breads which are outside the preset tolerances, are discarded. Our sensor measures with an accuracy of 1/100 mm which is more than sufficient in this case.

The whole process is automatic, and thus it is not necessary with manual spot testing. The advantage is that measurement are made on every burger bread, and at the same time, the production is quick. For reasons of hygiene, the ODS sensor was selected, since it is contactless and thus does not touch the breads.

The recorded data are used for statistical documentation to the end user in the form of height values and percentage of discarded breads.
